K4 & ADCM noted for Union Township Firehouse

July 26, 2006Batavia, OH. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the public and officials seem pretty excited about the Union Township Firehouse designed and built by K4.

K4 designed the fire department facility inside a new, two million gallon, metal water tower structure. Union Township sold property to Clermont County so it could build the tower, with the condition that the township could build a fire station in the base. K4 worked closely with the governmental entities, fire department, and tower manufacturer. K4 developed the 14,700 sf, three-story design around the fluted steel wall that supports the tank and associated systems. The firehouse includes a bay to house a fire truck and ambulance, office space, sleeping quarters, and meeting space, as well a cable access television station studio and equipment. The facility is believed to be one of the only two-story fire stations within a Midwestern water tower.

As reported by the Enquirer on July 26,2006.
" There's been a lot of interest in this project," said township Fire Chief Stanley G. Deimling, because people driving by or using Veterans Park across Glen Este-Withamsville Road have noticed the windows. "There have been a lot of people asking, 'Are we going to be able to get in and see it?' "

"The three floors built into the base of the 130-foot tower will be headquarters for the 60 full-time members of the Fire Department. The third floor also will house a television studio, editing room and offices for the township's new cable TV operation, which hopes to begin programming Tuesday."

"The 22 windows in the water tower can slide open, and each will be screened so firefighters and others can enjoy fresh air. But central air conditioning is already running. The building, which is 80 feet in diameter, encloses 15,000 square feet of finished space", Deimling said.

K4 began construction of the fire station in January 2006.
