CHALLENGE: As part of a design competition, K4 was invited with 4 other architectural firms to develop a new branded prototype branch facility that could serve as an iconic image for Citizens Bank’s new marketing strategy in the affluent Oakland County area of Michigan. The bank desired their facility to have a sense of "instant permanence," be adaptable to different sites and building solutions (remodel, in-line, tenant, new facility), as well as support the sales culture of the Citizens Team.
SOLUTION: K4’s winning entry solved the many challenges facing the bank. The final design translated the bank’s new marketing strategy and image into a prototype facility that was developed as a kit of parts and therefore easily adaptable to various locations. The limestone-imaged building distinguished the facility, yet fit within the context of the Michigan market. The building met all the requirements of the bank, as well as showcased the bank’s logo as a 6’-0" diameter ball suspended in the iconic tower that has become the symbol for the bank. In all, 13 different facilities were rolled out over a three year period to meet the market saturation goals of the bank.
