CHALLENGE: Located in the heart of a historic downtown area, this four-story, 1890s vintage building was originally the German Bank of Covington. The unique sandstone façade was in an advanced stage of deterioration and the building in general in disrepair. The new owner wanted to open a banquet center as part of the historic district's growing revitalization.
SOLUTION: K4 provided technical support to restore the sandstone façade and designed a new storefront façade for the street-level entry to complement this castle-like building. The award-winning solution included oversized cast stone veneer masonry units to provide a base with massive arches. Inside, K4 worked closely with IntraDesign to maintain many historic elements, including coffered ceilings and an ornamental wood stair. Interior architectural elements were also revitalized using rich colors and elegant detailing. A new banquet-type kitchen was added to complete the program.
