CHALLENGE: This Northern Kentucky parish was having services in a 1960s-vintage space that was originally intended to be a gymnasium. The parish was in need of a strong identity, and they were debating between building a new church or renovating their existing. Their budget was limited and they could not see how they could renovate their facility to make a "church", but they did not feel they had the funds to build a brand new facility.
SOLUTION: K4 quickly ascertained the parish’s needs, and in the initial interview indicated how they could renovate, save money, and make a "church" out of their current space. We completed a multi-phased master plan which included the placement of a future classroom/daycare addition and rectory. In the first phase, K4 developed a cost-effective solution that involved reorienting the space 45 degrees, changing the entrances, and bridging an existing wall to allow a new sanctuary space, confessional, choir, sacristy, parish office, and Blessed Sacrament Chapel. The design incorporated a new stained glass window surrounding a tabernacle which served both the main church and the chapel. Elevators and ramps were constructed to ensure ADA compliance. K4 created a full 3D “fly-by”, so parishioners could envision the sweeping reorientation. We helped the church solicit three construction bids. K4 worked with the winning contractor to ensure that services could continue while fast-track construction went forward.
