CLIENT:Union Township
INDUSTRY:Community
LOCATION:Union Township, Ohio
SIZE:3 stories, 14,700 sq. ft.

CHALLENGE: Clermont County needed to replace a nearby antiquated water tower. Union Township owned a parcel of ground on which they had hoped to build a fire station which also happened to be a good fit for a water tower. It was suggested to combine the two functions into one structure.

SOLUTION: K4 Architecture, LLC was selected to design a new fire station and coordinate that design into the superstructure of a new steel water tower. K4 worked with the tower structural designers to devise modifications to the water tower skin for the needed windows, as well as create a new internal structural system that would support the floor loads of the functioning fire station. A single vehicular entrance door was created on each end of the tower allowing emergency vehicles to enter and exit in a continuous direction, while storing 2 vehicles. K4 Construction was then selected through public bid to construct the intricate building system of the fire station, while coordinating with the specialized construction company whose expertise is the erection of water towers. The new building is one of the first water towers combined with a fire station in the country.
