CHALLENGE: Hidden Valley Lake is a private lake community which had maintained their offices in the basement of the only restaurant within the community. That restaurant was purchased from the community and required the offices to move. As part of this upgrade, the community desired to have a large meeting space, more functional office space to accommodate the "municipal" aspects of the community and a small fitness center for private members.

SOLUTION: K4 was brought in to first evaluate 2 different sites the community was considering. K4 recommended and the community approved a site that overlooked and was nearest to the large lake, where the building could serve as a symbol to the community. The design included the program as desired, but also a spacious clock tower that acts as a beacon to the community. The building was sited to allow a dramatic viewing from the main road into the community, as well as to provide a walk-out from the lower level meeting space to a large terrace overlooking the lake, the centerpiece of the private community. The exterior of the facility was modeled after a fishing village and tied into the context of the refurbished restaurant next door to enhance the composite fabric of this small "city" center.
