CHALLENGE: The client wanted to relocate their existing auto dealership to a better site with stronger retail visibility. However the small site contained an existing retail building, and exists in a new Land use plan with strict zoning guidlines. General Motors had developed a new prototype brand for dealerships, which would need to be adapted to meet site constraints, zoning design guidelines and owner's specific needs.
SOLUTION: K4 worked with the owner and the local jurisdiction to adapt the GM prototype to fit on the site and to conform with local design constraints. K4 suggested the use of more economical building materials in compliance with zoning standards, and still meeting the approval of GM. K4 worked with a representative of GM to obtain design feedback during the process. The result is a highly functional and aesthetically pleasing automotive dealership.
